Her grungiest outfit yet! Miley Cyrus looks every inch the punk rocker as she pounds the New York pavements

Miley Cyrus is going the extra mile to shed her good girl image.
The former Disney star stepped out in New York City today playing up her punk rock haircut.
Stomping around Manhattan's gritty East Village in combat boots, paired with a T-shirt, tattered shorts and a camouflage jacket tied around her waist, the 19-year-old appeared to have been transported straight out of the Eighties.

Showing off the tattoos on her forearms, the blonde star joined friend Cheyne Thomas as they shopped around St Marks Place in the East Village - known before Miley's birth as being the centre for counterculture in New York and, arguably, the birthplace of punk rock.

Since then, the city has cleaned up, (for good or for worse, depending on who you ask) with blocks of trendy boutiques and galleries popping up that could keep even the most fashion-conscious star busy for hours.

Miley, favouring a look from the city's romanticized past - before CBGBs was John Varvatos - paired her ensemble with a thick gold chain layered with a cross necklace and several gold earrings climbing up her cartilage.
The star, who rose to fame as the star of Disney's Hannah Montana, also flaunted her nose ring and weighed down her wrist with gold bangles and an oversized timepiece.
With an obligatory shopping bag in hand, fans may have wondered what ensemble she may step out in next.
But it appeared she still had a thing or two to learn about life in the big city, having trouble hailing down a cab when the excursion was over.

The break would presumably come as a welcome one for Miley, who has recently been by the side of her fiancé Liam Hemsworth as he films his new movie, Robert Luketic thriller Paranoia, in Philadelphia.
The actress has meanwhile been keeping herself busy by constantly updating fans about what she's up to over Twitter. Although it's unlikely she will act as thought she cares.

After receiving criticism for her new hairstyle after debuting the blonde pixie cut over the micro-blogging website on August 12, the star hit back: 'My dad Billy Ray Cyrus used to tell me, "Opinions are like a**holes - everybody has one."
'LOVE my hair. Feel so happy, pretty, and free,' she wrote.
