Michelle is Obarmy about ITV's Downton Abbey
First Lady pleads for DVDs before official launch
Obama drama ... how President and First Lady would look on Downton Abbey
FIRST Lady Michelle Obama is so obsessed with Downton Abbey she begged ITV chiefs to send over the third series ahead of its official US launch date, it was revealed yesterday.
President Barack is also a fan of the Brit costume drama and the couple could not wait until January 6, when the new episodes air in the United States. So his wife pulled a few strings — and now the Obamas can cuddle up on the White House couch and catch up with UK viewers.
A source on the hit ITV1 show said: “We know it’s very popular in America as it’s so quintessentially British. We’d heard the Obamas liked to watch it but we were very surprised when someone from the First Lady’s office got in touch asking for the series.
“They were very polite and we were more than happy to sort out some DVDs for them to send over. Obviously we hope they keep the spoilers to themselves as our US fans may not know about... well, you know what!”
The third series — which ended this month — saw Lady Sybil die in childbirth.
The President invited Downton stars Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern — the Earl and Countess of Grantham — to his White House dinner for PM David Cameron in March.
